M&C's third annual Global Interact event wrapped up last week in Vancouver, British Columbia. The hosted-buyer event brought together more than 70 meeting professionals and suppliers for two days of education, face-to-face appointments, area excursions and networking activities. Host properties were the Pan Pacific Vancouver and Fairmont Waterfront Vancouver, as well as the Vancouver Convention Centre, which provided meeting space with floor-to-ceiling views of Vancouver Harbour.
The event's keynote address focused on the timely topic of Risk Management for International Meeting Professionals, presented by Bruce McIndoe, CEO of iJET. McIndoe, a recognized leader in the risk management, travel and intelligence industries, addressed the reality of elevated threat levels, particularly in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings. He outlined critical site-selection considerations, and the specific responsibility of meeting professionals and suppliers to provide a safe environment for meeting participants as well as an action plan for handling emergencies. Also on the agenda was a presentation of M&C's annual Global Planner survey, which pegs trends in international destination selection, incentive programs, budgets and more. For findings, go here.
Participants enjoyed a choice of local excursions: a visit to the Capiliano Suspension Bridge and Grouse Mountain, or a Zodiac boat tour around Vancouver.
